Expedition Ship
Horizonl Light
Inspired by the events of the War of 1812, Horizon Light reimagines a pivotal moment when the young United States challenged the world’s greatest naval power, Great Britain.
This stunning artwork depicts a British-built, two-masted brig captured by the U.S. Navy and repurposed for exploration.
Proudly displayed on its stern is a rare 17-star, 17-stripe U.S. ensign, originally belonging to the privateer Blockade—a 128-ton schooner commanded by Captain Elisha Mix.
The Blockade was seized on October 31, 1812, near the Island of Saba in the Caribbean by Captain James Clapham aboard HMS Charybdis, an 18-gun, 385-ton British Navy brig with a crew of 121.

The Artwork
This masterfully handcrafted piece brings to life the artist’s vision of the captured British brig, meticulously constructed from over 10,000 individually designed media elements.
The vessel’s plank-on-frame hull is intricately detailed, with both its exterior and interior finished to perfection. The wood treatment and staining process remain a closely guarded secret of the artist.
Set upon an elaborate and uniquely designed dry dock, Horizon Light envisions the brig refitted by the U.S. Navy for an expedition in search of the Northwest Passage.
Created purely from imagination, this extraordinary piece was constructed without sketches, blueprints, or measuring tools—an artistic triumph showcasing vision and craftsmanship.
