Horizon Light – A One-of-a-Kind Handcrafted Maritime Masterpiece
Horizon Light captures a pivotal historical moment, inspired by the War of 1812. During this conflict, the United States faced Great Britain, the world’s most powerful naval force at the time, in a battle that shaped the young nation’s future.
The artwork features a British-built, two-masted brig, captured by the U.S. Navy. At the stern, you’ll find a rare 17-star, 17-stripe U.S. ensign, originally from the privateer schooner Blockade. This 128-ton vessel, commanded by Captain Elisha Mix, was seized during a battle near the Island of Saba on October 31, 1812. Captain James Clapham of the British HMS Charybdis led the attack, overpowering the Blockade.
A Masterpiece of Maritime Artistry
This stunning creation is a fusion of history and imagination. It features a handcrafted two-masted brig constructed from over 10,000 uniquely designed media elements, forming a plank-on-frame hull that is both detailed and precise. The vessel’s exterior and interior are finished using a secret staining technique developed by the artist, adding a unique touch of artistry.
What truly sets Horizon Light apart is its display. The ship rests on a custom-designed dry dock, highlighting its intricate craftsmanship. The brig, originally captured by the U.S. Navy, has been re-envisioned as an expedition vessel, preparing for a daring search for the Northwest Passage.
This creation was born from pure imagination, as the artist built it without any plans, sketches, or measuring tools. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that blends historical accuracy with artistic expression.
