Horizon Light captures a pivotal historical moment, inspired by the War of 1812. During this conflict, the United States faced Great Britain, the world’s most powerful naval force at the time, in a battle that shaped the young nation’s future.

The artwork features a British-built, two-masted brig, captured by the U.S. Navy. At the stern, you’ll find a rare 17-star, 17-stripe U.S. ensign, originally from the privateer schooner Blockade. This 128-ton vessel, commanded by Captain Elisha Mix, was seized during a battle near the Island of Saba on October 31, 1812. Captain James Clapham of the British HMS Charybdis led the attack, overpowering the Blockade.
